modders can't change stuff that is core to the game. They would have to rewrite the whole game.

Kudos to them for being extremely persistent (which probably derives from the oppressing sense of guilt )
They almost make me want to install it again, the one year later reunion (no pun intended) after the violent divorce. I know that it'd be a huge mistake, though. Still somewhat tempting, in a sadomasochistic way, if you know what I mean. xD

Yea I'll be reinstalling this for this update. It's not like I'm gonna give up on this, I already paid for it after all. I just hope it is at least decent this time around.

That game with the 2D battles seems way better than X Shitbird even if its not sim at all. But Ill play arcade "shits" rather than crap X. If I want X Ill go for X3TC.

It goes as following
X Rebirth The Teladi Outpost
---- GUI language
-------- Russian
---- Voiceover
-------- English
Additional software
Create shortcut on a Desktop
Looks like there is no English GUI.

Supposedly, according to the comments, you can edit lang.dat and change region to 44 (English) for the UI. Thanks WB, much appreciated!

I tried. Really I did. But this is just bad You can SEE how it was going to be awesome, there are these wonderful little touches to the game but ... no... it's not. Clunky, buggy, ugly, runs like shite, the interface is a mess, exploring stations is a mess, everything is so unbelievably complex and stuffy - it seems far worse than X3 was and that was even AFTER you install sixty-gabillion dozen extensions to help automate everything.
Shame, real shame, but oh well I did like the combat though, best FL-esque combat I've seen in a sim since.. well, Freelancer.

Yes, and the reality is it always will be. It's a console game and an awful one at that.
I have shamefully pumped enough hours into it to realise that no amount of patching can save it, a heavily polished turd is still a turd. The game is not enjoyable and everything is a chore, it's just not worth the effort.

Its funny how all of the patches to this date is testament to how fucked up the game was on release day, and still is.
Do EgoSoft think about this at all. I wonder if Creative Assembly thinks about this as they always spend years trying to repair the shit they release. Probably not. It seems like the business and development model these people swear by.
I love how it is sometimes presented as a service to the community. Fixing the game is a service to the community that bought it for sub 60 dollars on release day. You know, the customers that thought they bought a finished game gets to say "Thank you" to the developers for patch-jobs.

I don't think Egosoft can actually afford these kinds of fuck ups, unlike CA who practically operate on this model since Empire. Make a shit, broken game, sell plenty of copies, then sell a working "better version", rinse and repeat. Let's not forget all the bullshit DLCs.
Egosoft have always support their games post-release with plenty of free updates, fixes, and the core game has always been good. This time, god knows what the fuck happened. Given how many years it took to develop Rebirth, I'm surprised the office's lights are still on.

Yeah, did it sell good or what? Did they make a profit with the expansions? How are they in business?

In all fairness, I think they are just simply dedicated developers. They have their heart in these games. Sure, they fucked up badly with the last release, they know it. But they also proved that they are capable of good games (the predecessors), and I'm pretty sure they want to keep what they have left of their fanbase happy. I'm pretty sure they'll also be working on a new, hopefully better iteration.

No, there was proof that this was a discarded console title. They revived it and half-assed it to Steam for a quick-buck, avoiding the console processes of verification and so forth in order to reach a big audience. Only PC accepts broken and half-finished games. It was everywhere the first few weeks as we went through the code. Egosoft scrambled to minimize damage, cleaned up code and tried to make quick cosmetic UI changes.
It was a cash-grab, fueled by the success of X2 and X3.
Now they will try to make another game, and of course everyone will just "forget" they spent 60 dollars or close to that sum on X-Rebirth.
