I think it has to do with the local traditions of the region it comes from .. the salt for the blood, because of the dehydration via hot sun & the lemon/lime to bolster the immune system .. kind of an antidote for the negative effects of the alcohol .. so you can drink it all day without it making you sick in the sun .. I am guessing here .. if somebody feels like goggling it .. I would also be interested in a decent explanation ..

I never drink tequila like that, simply straight up without the salt and the lemon.
Trust me...the first few times are bitter, but then the unspoiled taste really starts to taste good!

Ever since one of my friend's dared me to drink a glass (like a regular milk type of glass, the tall, big ones) of Sam in one mouthful/all at once, i've disliked it...puked my guts out cuz of that shit

can't stand the taste of Sambucca, makes me puke!
Same with Safari...I drank too much once and now I just can't stand it...too sweet.
