This is just a teller that never ends.

Edit I should motivate it: The WHO predicted that half of Europe's population will be infected with Omikron within weeks.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-59948920

And the Americans are already ahead of us, so this poll must come up with some interesting results. Wink

wear a ffp2 mask, social and physical distance, don't touch your face and wash your hands, then you will be fine.
just walk around your town and look at people, out of 50, MAYBE 5 wear a mask in the city, the rest not. cause they don't have to, cause they think they will be fine, or think they don't need it. they talk on the bus station, or at the supermarket, like nothing happend ever. no distance at all.

of course it will infect half of europe, cause half of europe is full of retards.

@freiwald: That should protect you very well, yes. Those FFP2 mask are not exactly cheap, but it is not mandatory here (NL). Social distancing is being neglected by many, in the supermarket or on the street near the shopping mall where I live, especially by youngsters.
In NL we went from full lock down to a partial lock down today. There is lots of social unrest and public disobedience. We are advised to use medical mask type II or type IIR.

Ah, it is going to be a couple of crazy weeks people. Get vaccinated and/or boostered!

if you know you have covid or omikron a (good)mask can be advisable, on the other hand i think it's better to let someone else do e.g shopping if you have it. otherwise its rather pointless. never worn one in my entire life..

omikron is obviously good shit.. its our saviour from covid, a much, much less severe variant that will take over, its not worse than the flu (yes, even the flu can be dangerous to weak/elderly and already sick people). this is how other dangerous viruses has disappeared. the more who gets it the better.

best advice is not a mask but to stay healthy (as in not being a lard-ass + take your vitamin D in high dosage), have fucking common sense.

Can you even have the flu and be completely asymptomatic (very common with Omicron, more so than Covid)?

There's loss of taste and smell with the flu too btw.

From what we know thus far about Omicron at least, i mean won't say we know for certain with anything including the (experimental, non-approved) vaccine (obviously i'm staying far away from that for now).

As far as I know, the flu can only cause a bit of an impairment to your taste, not actual true loss of it, not unless the flu was so severe that it damaged your organs.
Also, those who suffer an impairment to their taste from having the flu typically regain it within roughly 2-3 days.

The people who loose taste from Covid can't even taste the difference between bitter and sweet, that's how strong it is.
And it lasts longer than 2-3 days...

I just think it's far too early to say that Omicron isn't more dangerous or severe than the flu.

I'm saying everything points to that, it's far less severe than covid (this is established) and Covid isn't exactly extremely dangerous either unless you are old, extremely obese or already sick (diabetes and similar), the flu is also dangerous for the old/weak.

It's true that smell/taste comes back quicker when you have the flu, but i think anyone who's experienced the flu knows that you lose taste and often smell too.

Not true. When my nose gets clogged during a flu or bad cold i smell and taste nothing for some days.

Been there, (Omicron) done that. Had the worst NYE evar Laughing
Symptoms were headache, muscular pain, fatigue and a 39ºC fever for a day. Afterwards the smell and taste were missing, with some days after leaving behind the fever with strange smell and taste. After 10 days of quarantine I was ready to go, smell and taste back to normal. Fine and dandy lads. Cool

I did positive the first day, and negative after four days. Not the worst flu I've ever had, that's for sure.

That's weird, I've had the flu multiple times, and many bad colds too.
While I've certainly been clogged up and thus unable to smell things (since duh, it's clogged), I've never lost all of my taste the way people describe from Covid.
And I don't think I've ever heard of this from other people either.
Not to say it can't happen of course...

Either way, I'd pick the flu over Covid (including Omicron variant) any day of the week.

Well people in general seem to forget about the existence of the flu and cold now so i don't expect people to remember symptoms either. No offense btw but i'm just surprised how quick people are to forget stuff they've had in their lives for 20-50+ years.

Except so far no evidence points to that at all, at most 1-2 months immunity to covid by getting Omikron, feel free to link all the articles that say otherwise.

If you’re already vaccinated, getting omicron will now provide further training for your immune system and since omicron seems to be less virulent but more infectious it seems to be a good moment to slowly getting Covid endemic. But at the same time other variants will surely follow and we will never know how they will be, we must stay cautious as well.

We can thank the vast majority of young healthy people who vaccinated last year, significantly reducing transmission, therefor reducing last autumns hospitalizations of boomer elders who can’t handle social media and their fear of the unknown.

With updated vaccines we‘ll be able to slow down the spread even more, at least for those who won’t get omicron right away.

All depends of your stronk enough to handle the vaccine though.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I just got struck by Omicron recently, I did the mistake of allowing friends to come in the highlight of the crisis, Luckily, I got vaccinated 3rd time, already on recovering, and released in 2 days.

For me, it's was basically just more severe common cold with tiredness.

Same. Hit the wife. She lost smell and taste for about two weeks. Had a cough for almost a month.

3yo was wobbly for a week.
8mo same.

Only hard part was fever for the kids.

No covid as of yet but I've self-isolated most of the time and I'm trying to be as careful as possible when I need to go to the store (I usually ride with a friend since I haven't got a car anymore and it's freezing outside).

I avoid public transport as much as I possibly can and IF I absolutely need to go somewhere (important appointment) I make sure the appointment takes place during the hours when there's barely any people on the buses whatsoever. Getting infected with omicron on a bus in the morning when people take the bus to school or work as well as 4-5pm when the same people take the bus home probably has a 98% probability of infecting you with omicron since the buses tend to be full even though the busdrivers have been told not to pick up people when a certain limit of passengers has been reached.

Nobody gives a fuck about wearing masks (masks should be mandatory on public transports and other public areas) which is extremely important to help lower the risk of infecting others. The only places where masks are mandatory are health centers when you have an appointment with your doctor, a nurse or a shot of vaccine. They provide masks at every entry point.

Wearing a mask to protect yourself isn't really all that effective unless you've got a mask that is sealed around your nose and mouth (and you wash your hands before and after being around other people) since a lot of the air you breathe comes from the gaps around the nose and below your chin. It's mostly useful to minimize the amount of virus particles that they/you spread in case they/you have caught the virus. At least that's what's been said and written.

Are you fully vaccinated (including booster shot)?

Anyway, there's a risk of long COVID even if you had a mild initial onset:

https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/omicron-amps-concerns-long-covid-82573942

Quote:
Long COVID affects adults of all ages as well as children. Research shows it is more prevalent among those who were hospitalized, but also strikes a significant portion who weren’t.

...

Immunobiologist Akiko Iwasaki is studying the tantalizing possibility that COVID-19 vaccination might reduce long COVID symptoms. Her team at Yale University is collaborating with a patient group called Survivor Corps on a study that involves vaccinating previously unvaccinated long COVID patients as a possible treatment.
