Bill Roper trying again.

I was very hyped for the original game, pre-ordered, played it for 1 hour and never touched it again, one of the most dismal piss games I ever bought. I think the worst games i ever paid for was probably this, Underworld Ascendant, then D3. I never bothered with the Korean rebuild, and the whole project just came off as mismanaged new business and budget by industry veterans, a not even halfway complete game was shipped with empty promises and no patching.

Kind of similar story to Underworld Ascendant (which kills me given I consider the 1993 games a top 10 of all time game release). Yet they had no money or time to actually develop that game where these guys pissed away a truckload of publisher dollars).

i didn't find hellgate that bad myself. i actually thought it was pretty good in many respects.. but it did have a lot of problems and didn't really capitalize on most of its own effort. it was worth playing more than 1 hour of it at least Laughing

not a fan of roper at this point either way, it's clear the creative efforts of D2 just wasn't really his effort alone.

The only thing I remember liking about the original was the cinematic.

For sure, the name, setting, dev team (A lot of the Diablo 2 leads), and that cinematic was used to market the game = insta-preorder.

but look at the game.. there were like 3 enemy models, a subway, alley and library map in the game.

It released the same year as BioShock, Mass Effect, Portal, Ep2, the Witcher (which was a bit of a technical mess on NVN2 engine but still much better game) etc.

not going to lie man, out of all the these games, the one i most actually want to replay is hellgate. i'm still livid they didn't include lan-play and left in that shitty memory leak.
wasn't the best solo game.

Same. I was actually in the beta and it took a a couple of hours to reach the point of "uninstall, delete, forget". Such a waste...
