It's not so much the channel, as the entire concept of chatting to a bunch of anonymous (and quite obviously) bored people isn't quite my bag.
I prefer a forum. I'd say a forum consist of about 70% crap (and boredom talk), what makes IRC so fucking useless is that it's up at 90%+ - people who sit around and go "um, lol, I see dead people" - and that's the only point of this protocol.
If I want to chat with people, I do it with people I actually know, and for this - MSN/ICQ works fine and dandy. I have absolutely no interest in watching nforcers spam the #nforce channel with boring content, regardless of how much you like it.
I like the forum though, I can choose what topics I want to participate in, and ignore the ones I don't care at all about. The bonus is, I can do it whenever I want, and won't have to directly interact with the people I talk to. That way, maybe their answers will be slightly more thought through (hopefully).
IRC away to your hearts content. It's definitely not for me. Actually, I'm quite repulsed by the entire concept of it.

I tend to talk to people I know in person not over the net You need to get out more dude. I'm not saying IRC is good but to bash it and then say forums are better sounds stupid. This is just as crappy
