I was so in love with the idea of Hellgate: London, a mix of Diablo-like randomization, loot and character-customization and Serious Sam-style frantic shooter gameplay still sounds like the perfect game to me. It's such a shame that it was a buggy mess with too little variety.

yeah, but there isn't much info to be found tbh. Not even on their site (besides "24 levels and new monsters". i.e. no info about if it's buy 2 play etc.

It'll likely be the same as the T3fun version on their website; free to play with substantial microtransactions.

What i don't get is, isn't tokyo already out ? Or is this all just to get the game on steam ?
some more confusion :
They try to greenlight "hellgate : TOKYO" , not Hellgate Global/London
So, if this was part of the entire game (global), why isn't that being green lit ? I mean, how can you add "an expansion" to steam, but not the base game ?
This makes me think, that they made a stand-alone version of tokyo, cutting off the london part.
Also isn't the tokyo part in HG:L endgame ? I.e. after you went through london, don't recall that anymore.

That looks shit. HGL had so much wasted potential but I loved it too with all of its shortcomings.

It could have been an awesome game if they hadnt been so ambitious. They should have just done an arpg at the time there was nothing in the market.

I have a strange feeling for this game. I recognize it's bad, yet I still like it

Bill Roper wasn't the problem.
It was the moronic audience who couldn't comprehend what an optional subscription meant. Beyond that, the launch state was an issue no one seemed willing to forgive.
The game ended up being pretty great, but it was too late by then.

Ya but I think they were forced into that subscription model blowing their budget out and it was a clearly unfinished product at launch. I think trying to deliver an FPS and isometric ARPG in one game was a huge mistake.. they even had a little offshoot project "Mythos" that was pure ARPG and better received.
The world they created was awesome though, it would have been great if they just did an isometric ARPG in apocalyptic London.

It had some nice mythos if not fucked up. I always wished there were a location with old queen that the templars tried to protect, some more landmark locations and ditched the sub part that was really a gamble at that time.

Nothing was "optional" about the subscription the stuff in there simply was too good so you where kinda forced to pay it if you wanted to play and be competitive especially at the start of the game it was some horrible bullshit.

Case in point about the audience not getting it.
It was during the early days of the MMO models - and most people were struggling with the concept of subscriptions.
So, their concept was to offer new content through a subscription model - but with everything vital available for free.
They could have made it a forced subscription like all other MMOs at the time, but they wanted to be flexible. Not only that, but the price was 10$ instead of the standard 15$ as seen in WoW/EQ/UO.
Remember, it was a live game with constant updates and an auction house. They had major network infrastructure to maintain, and they even picked a really strong provider as an expert - which is why the ping times and response times were fantastic (after they fixed the core game which was definitely launched too early).
That's what people were too stupid to understand. They thought it should be like Diablo 2 - which had zero new content except in an expansion that you PAID for.
The added content wasn't vital in any way - and there was no competition involved at all. It was simply small pieces of new content like an expansion would have brought after a couple of years worth.

I wonder if this will have the latest DX10 enhancements that were made to HGL before it shut down.
