lol, I'm the opposite of artsy ... couldn't draw/paint/whatever to save my life
we actually got in an argument the other night ... I said if we have kids no fucking way I'm paying for a BA (maybe, and just maybe for something like economics or commerce) ... 4 yr engineering degree sounds good, no MSc or MBA needed
I paid $1200 for a sony laptop and that piece of crap was more powerful than cheapest unibody Al mac, but the build quality is no where near apple.
Ah-ah-ah! Not so quick.
The hardware on a top of the line Windows notebook may be more advanced, but that won't do you much good if you are still running a sluggish OS. To me, real speed counts. Not the specs of the machine.
I've been a Windows lover and Apple hater all my life... until I actually bought me a Mac and experienced what all the fuss is about. Snow Leopard boots in 40s on my MacBook, and it's only equipped with a 2GHz Core2Duo CPU. There's no hassle with buggy virus scanners, fire walls, drivers, defragmentation and other startup shit.
Macs have one big advantage: the OS is fine tuned for the hardware.

tho Lutz, both ableton and cubase are available on Mac, along with logic which makes it the obvious choice if you have the money for Mac Pro's.
no, it is not a logical choice (does the same, but is more expensive). It s just another possible choice. And that is what i wanted to point it. They always tried to market the mac as the tool of choice for creative people, but thats just not true.

I'll take customization over fine tuning every day. Plus you can do fine tuning yourself, which is not very hard at all.
The sony laptop im talking about loads win 7 pro in 46 seconds flat (yes i just timed it), and by that I mean its fully usable where i can open firefox. Sony has ~2.23 ghz duo core, 3 gigs of ram, and a standard hdd at 5400rpm. And if I dont like something that starts up with my comp, I just go to msconfig and turn it off.
My acer aspire one netbook with single core atom loads win 7 starter in less than 20 seconds.
So I do not see your point, our times are pretty similar with similar specs.
I also do not have any problems or hassles with buggy virus scanners, fire walls, drivers, defragmentation and other startup shit. Win 7 is amazing at finding the right drivers, the last time i actually searched for drivers was when i installed new VC only to find out that it already downloaded and installed the latest drivers.
So the only thing I would take from macs is their appearance, but everything else i have absolutely no problems with.
Oh and about using mac to differentiate yourself from the masses, I would say that totally opposite thing applies to my uni. Macbooks really overwhelm every other type of laptop here. And not even talking about starbucks.
Will there be a new iPhone this year? I doubt it. Probably next year I would imagine. Hopefully they can put a better battery in it though because I have to charge my 3GS twice a day at least which is a pain in the arse.
I have an incar charger though that I can use when I'm out and about but believe it or not my battery still depletes when I'm using the TomTom iPhone app while it's connected to the charger.
Stupid apple. The new OS 4 TOS actually bans all middleware for developing iPhone apps. That means no game engines, every game needs to be developed from scratch. I mean what kind of bullshit is that. Every programmer develops a code base that he uses in his other projects. If I decide to use that code base in game that it wasn't originally developed for, supposedly that's a breach of contract. Luckily they can't find that out, but they can root out all the popular middleware.
Unity3D is one of the applications being hit. There are hundreds of Unity games in the store, and some of the are the most popular ones there. I personally don't develop for iPhone, but use Unity in PC projects, although I know tons of people that do use it and have and are working on iPhone projects they invested money in. And now they decide to do this shit? I mean apple, what the fuck are you thinking?
From TOS:
Quote:
3.3.1 โ Applications may only use Documented APIs in the manner prescribed by Apple and must not use or call any private APIs. Applications must be originally written in Objective-C, C, C++, or JavaScript as executed by the iPhone OS WebKit engine, and only code written in C, C++, and Objective-C may compile and directly link against the Documented APIs (e.g., Applications that link to Documented APIs through an intermediary translation or compatibility layer or tool are prohibited).
Didn't Epic develop a fork of their UE3 for iPhone, and Apple jumped through hoops to show how good its device is? Don't tell me that was just for UT3!
Maybe they have an option to make a middleware registered and approved at Apple?
I hope they do, I know the Unity guys know as much as we do, and they're meeting with Apple next week to find out more. Seems like a really dumb move by Apple in any case if you ask me.
Not sure about unreal, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just found out about this too. The day this came out, Unity actually released a new version of the engine for the iPad. Shows you how much Apple supports their developers.
But this is complete load of crap, at any way you look at it. There is no real reason to do this. A class-action suit against apple by a few of the middleware developers can make them remove this completely silly requirement.
Well, you'd think they would want as many multiplatform titles as possible. With Android on the rise, this can be a breaking point for many developers to move to a superior platform.
It's only speculation, but they might have done it because both Unity 3.0 and Flash CS5 promise to compile software for both iPhone and Android.
The fact is, Apple believe these compilers, which actually only wrap native Unity/Flash code in iPhone wrappers, to be unstable.

I'm a troll! well done, you caught me lying my ass off on a forum. I post pictures so that it makes you angry and that you wish you could have my awesome material things
The fact is, it is a load of BS. If they are unstable, it is Apple's job to find out in process before listing on the marketshare, and later for the developer to support. It's the usual silly Apple behavior trying to control every aspect.
After all the requests to implement easier export to the iPhone/Appstore directly from flash, Adobe listens and implements it in Flash CS5.. Now, right before CS5 is about to be released, they do this Way to make friends there, Apple..

I don't deny that it's a load of BS, I hate Apple because of this.
Adobe have already stated their disgust at Apple because they refused give Adobe access to APIs relevant to hardware acceleration in Flash. This is the reason people complain about Flash's performace on macs, but they blame Adobe, not Apple.
