From Paris With Love 8/10 - John Travolta with rapper looks throwing one liners, cant go wrong Very Happy.

Harry Brown 9/10 - Michael Caine is even more badass than Chuck Norris and Steven Seagal combined.

Ninja Assasin 5/10 - 5 points comes from the gore, movie itself sucked balls.

Leningrad - 4/10

Terrible acting by most of the actors led by Mira Sorvino sounding like a school-teacher and one of the worst Hitler performances I've ever seen. Movie tries to tell too many stories and doesn't even do justice to the one that is the backdrop of the movie, ie the siege. Unknown characters on the German side are given screen-time but have no impact on the story or events. I wasn't expecting any method acting here ala Christian Bale in The Machinist but the actors look too unconvincing.

A chance missed to make what could have been a poignant film.

ya.. it was.

Just a heads up. I watched Alice in Wonderland pre-copy about 2 weeks ago, its released in most places this friday with pre-screenings in the UK on wednsday. Its well worth a watch in the cinema Wink its CGI is sweet, not as good as avatar but really, its CGI + a somewhat good story. So probably folks will enjoy it more Smile A solid 8 or even 9 / 10 movie.

ok planning towards my 'big download night'™, and since i grabbed the crow and the resident evil trilogy in 1080, im looking for something else to get in 1080... so whats some good suggestions. they dont have to be GREAT movies, just films that are really great to see in high quality (thinking mainly effects movies or heavy action flicks)

at the moment im thinking id4 or fifth element...

If id4 means "Independence Day" and you are an Emmerich fan, try 2012. The BluRay is supposed to be gorgeous.
The best 1080p I've seen recently was "Up in the Air". It's not an action flim but the transfer is reference quality.

Indeed, I have already saw this movie some 3 or 4 times.

It achieves perfection on so many different levels.

That final scene by the 38th parallel when they find each other again it's one of the most cinematic intense scenes in all movie history, the acting is superb, specially the older brother portrait of madness, the way they shot that scene with the brothers having their personal moment and the grenades exploding behind them, all the dirt falling towards their faces, the bullets flying through their heads, the South Koreans retreating when the Chinese come to aid the North Koreans in the background.

That scene is imo the perfect resolution on a movie that achieved perfection since it's very beginning and was able to keep it until the very last second.

Sad we don't have movies like this more often, the only 2 works that achieve the same quality of this movie is Flags of our Fathers/Letters from Iwo Jima and Band of Brothers, although Band of Brothers is somewhat one sided.

The question is likely do you care about 3D?

what a bunch of bullcrap
what's the point of making a film of the best ace pilot ever and then have it be about everything but the flying
only had a few aerial fights.. none that were properly good ones
plot was usable but the direction and editing just made it so damn boring
but mostly i'm just bummed i got sold on a film promising something and giving me the opposite

It wasn't originally, but since Avatar became the most successful movie of last year the studio decided to take the 2D shots and add depth as they like via software.

When I read the synopsis for this movie, I decided instantly never to watch it.

Quote:
Baron Manfred von Richthofen (Schweighöfer) is the most feared and celebrated pilot of the German air force in World War I. To him and his companions, air combats are events of sporty nature, technical challenge and honorable acting, ignoring the terrible extent of war. But after falling in love with the nurse Käte (Headey), Manfred realizes he is only used for propaganda means. Caught between his disgust for the war, and the responsibility for his fighter wing, von Richthofen sets out to fly again.
